How we work
A refreshing approach to clothing production
We collect interest - literally
How do you order Changing Attire Polo shirts? First, we open up the possibility of showing your interest in our shirts by depositing £10. We expect to hit our targets for starting a pooled production run within 12 months (if you want to tag us on social media or refer a friend, it can speed up the process). If the 12 months lapse without a chance of pooled ordering, then we will pay you £15 back (please see terms and conditions). For some of our production runs, however, we won’t ask for a pre-payment, which also means no additional payment back to you if 12 months should pass.
We wait until we have enough interest
Now we wait. This is where you can help by raising awareness so we reach a reasonable level for pooled orders more quickly. You also have the option of gaining exclusive insights into Changing Attire’s work while we are collecting pre-orders (you can choose to unsubscribe from updates).
After enough pre-orders – we ask for confirmation
When the pre-orders reach our target, we reach out to all of you who have given a pre-order. If you would like to confirm the purchase, you can purchase it from our shop with a discount. Others can still purchase a shirt at full price and join the production run.
Your clothes are produced
After two weeks of collecting confirmations, we issue the production order with all the different sizes and colours you wanted. Only the exact number of clothes go into production that were ordered, so we avoid excess and waste in the process.
You are included in the journey
You will be kept up-to-date throughout the entire journey. We will keep you in the loop when the materials arrive, when the clothes are produced, and how they are packed in 100% recyclable materials for shipping. However, you can opt out in case you do not wish any news.
Delivery
Two to three weeks after your order confirmation, your clothing arrives at your doorstep. It is plastic-free on the inside and outside.
Try it on, let us know how it fits and share your experiences on social media. #ChangingAttire @ChangingAttire
Why ordering this way is better
Our way shows how producing in the UK beats any foreign competition. We can offer more sizes that fit you better with a first-row seat in the production process. In addition, you have transparency on how your clothes are produced.
Traditionally, producing clothes on a large scale is a guessing game where fashion companies try to forecast how many of their customers order an S, how many an M, an XL, etc. The problem is that even with the most sophisticated forecasting models, the forecast is off by a large margin. As a result of this, companies control the losses by offering less sizes and hoping people would compromise on size and find an acceptable fit in one of the few sizes they offer.
We want to challenge this norm and believe our forecast system is unbeatable – we know exactly what sizes to produce because we ask you at your order. That allows us to tailor the production runs to the sizes of our customers instead of the other way around. Producing locally gives us the flexibility to adjust orders when they come in. As a result, we do not overproduce and avoid the average 20% of clothing production that is directly disposed of in a landfill.
